• Berkeley City Resolution to End Racial Discrimination
  In 1990, the Berkeley City Council adopted a Human Rights ordinance based on United Nations Charter Articles 55 and 56. In 1994, the U.S. ratified the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD). In 2007, the Berkeley City Council this resolution to adopt the obligations of CERD as a municipal responsibility.
• One City's Commissions Made Required Reports to Department of State
  The Miami police department received federal funding to quell demonstrators expected at rallies against the Free Trade in America Agreement (FTAA) meetings in Miami. In order to obtain this money, the Miami city officials made a request in advance and made a report afterward to the federal government on how the money was spent - on riot gear, pepper spray, rubber bullets, extra police forces, etc.
