Petition Filed With Inter-American Commission On Human Rights

Dec. 18, Washington D.C.:

Latino Justice Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education Fund (PRLDEF) filed a petition with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights denouncing the U.S. for failing to meet its obligations to ensure the security of Latinos residing in the U.S. Local police are not protecting Latinos from hate crimes and the situation has deteriorated as many municipalities have taken on policing formerly done only by the federal immigration authorities. Recently three Latinos have been killed and many have reported attacks and beatings.

MCLI signed onto the petition at the suggestion of Board Member Steve Bingham.
